About The Area

Lago Rapel is an artificial reservoir located 63 kilometres from Melipilla, in the heart of the “ruta del vino” or “the wine route” and only an hour and a half from Santiago, 20 minutes away by plane. The site is a hub for national tourism, reflected in the vast quantity of spas, summer homes and the practice of nautical sports, such as windsurfing, water skiing, wake boarding, flyboarding, yachting and fishing of Argentinian “pejerrey”.Since 2011, the Sistema Interconectado Central has regulated the quote of the lake to maintain it filled during the summer and lowered during the low-energy-production season. This is mainly due to the large demands from tourists and residents in this area, and it ensures the level of water in the lake is at maximum capacity every year from August to April.On December 2014, the lake’s riverbank was declared a “Zone de of Tourism Interest”, integrating the community of Las Cabras, Litueche and La Estrella. This category implies a sustainable level of tourist activity as the main artery for this area’s success, enabling an influx of investments, improving the roadways and ensuring proper environmental care, as well as other items which are being developed as a response to this sector’s tourism.
