Tammy Murphy

Tammy Murphy brings to Golden Gate Sotheby’s a prior career as a senior marketing and advertising executive – and more than 26 years of local friends, connections and experience. Her focus is Walnut Creek, Lafayette and Orinda based on her connections and community involvement here.

Tammy graduated from the University of California at Berkeley in 1990 and began her professional career in marketing and advertising. She began with McCann-Erickson Worldwide and then moved to Young & Rubicam, where she was responsible for high-profile Clorox brands and promoted at age 29 to Senior Vice President. J. Walter Thompson then recruited her to lead its Nestle Confections division and head campaigns for Butterfinger candy and Glen Ellen and Beaulieu Vineyards wines. While at J. Walter Thompson, Tammy was responsible for over $30 million in annual billings and led research and marketing campaigns for preeminent brands such as Pepsi-Cola, Keurig, Dr. Pepper, Land O'Lakes, Coca-Cola, InBev, Morinaga and Alicorp.

Tammy took a brief hiatus from her professional career to raise her four children: Madelyn, Mollie, Mackenzie and Patrick. She kept busy and active in the community, serving (among other things) as the St. Mark's Nursery School Board President, Santa Maria Church volunteer, and leader of countless charitable and social events at the Orinda Schools and Orinda Country Club.

Tammy’s connections in the Lamorinda community are legendary. She is married to import/export entrepreneur Matt Murphy (and as a result enjoys the extended family of more than 40 Murphy in-laws, nieces, nephews and cousins in the area). She has lived in the Lake Cascade area, adjacent to the Orinda Country Club, for more than 23 years. Her eldest daughter, Madelyn, graduated from Tammy’s alma mater Carondelet High School and her other two daughters graduated from Miramonte High School. Madelyn, her eldest, is an NCAA champion swimmer and American Record holder. Tammy’s second daughter, Mollie, is a third-year student at Cal Poly San Luis Obispo and an avid surfer; her youngest daughter, Mackenzie, is a freshman playing varsity water polo for the University of California at Santa Barbara; and her son, Patrick, is a fifth-grader at Sleepy Hollow School, where he plays club water polo in his free time (with Dad Matt coaching) along with OBA, MOL, Orinda Country Club golf, tennis and swim.

During Tammy’s free time, you can find her walking around Lake Cascade with her dog Ryder and community friends; planning parties and events; and enjoying all of the many joys her four children bring her.

Tammy is thrilled to be at Golden Gate Sotheby’s doing what she loves most: helping people and sharing the community she has enjoyed her whole life.
