Gretchen grew up in San Marino and later Pasadena, attending Valentine Elementary, Westridge School for Girls for middle school and graduating high school from Polytechnic School. She received a BA in French Literature from UC Berkeley. After college, she formed the alternative band Mary's Danish and was a touring musician for nine years until 1997 when she began her career in real estate.

Gretchen is an avid tennis and pickle ball player, and a longtime member of the Pasadena Art Alliance. She enjoys trying out as many new restaurants and coffee shops in LA as possible.
